Key Facts
Where in the World is Colombia?
Colombia is a country in South America, like a big, colorful country on a map! It has thirty-two special areas called departments, plus one special city area. Think of departments like big neighborhoods in a giant house.
Each department has its own leader, like a mayor of a town, called a governor. They help make sure everything runs smoothly, like making sure the playground is safe and fun for everyone!
Who's in Charge Here?
Every department has a governor, who is like the main boss of that area. People vote for their governor, kind of like voting for class president! The governor is in charge for four years.
They also have a team called an Assembly, who help the governor make decisions. These leaders make sure the departments are happy and healthy places to live, just like your teachers help you learn and grow at school.
What Makes Each Place Special?
Colombia's departments are all different and amazing! Some might have tall mountains that touch the clouds, while others have sunny beaches where you can build sandcastles. Some might be super big, like a whole bunch of playgrounds put together, and others are smaller. Each department has its own unique look and feel, making Colombia a super interesting place with lots to explore!
People Working Together!
Inside each department are even smaller areas called municipalities. These are like smaller towns or cities within the bigger department. Each municipality has its own mayor, who is like the leader of that town. Just like in your classroom, everyone works together to make their part of Colombia a great place to live. It’s all about teamwork to keep things running!
