David Lawrence (cricketer)

Imagine a super-fast bowler in cricket! That was David Lawrence. He was a fantastic player for Gloucestershire, a famous cricket team. He was so good that he even got to play for England, the country's best cricket team! David was the very first Black player born in Britain to wear the England shirt. That's a super big deal and made him a hero to many.

David started playing cricket and was really, really good at bowling. He took so many wickets for Gloucestershire, it's like he was a wicket-collecting machine! He played alongside other amazing players like Courtney Walsh. Sadly, he had a big accident with his knee while playing for England, which meant he had to stop playing for a while. But his story didn't end there!

David Lawrence is super important because he showed everyone that talent comes in all colors. He was the first Black British-born player for England, which was a huge step! Later, he became the president of his old team, Gloucestershire. He even got a special award from the Queen for all his amazing work in cricket. He's a real inspiration!

David Lawrence was so good at cricket that he took an incredible 625 wickets for Gloucestershire! That's more wickets than there are students in a very, very big school! He also became the first Black president of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, showing he's a leader on and off the field. He was even given an MBE, which is a special award for his amazing contributions.
