Key Facts
Who Was This Mystery Jumper?
Once upon a time, a man called Dan Cooper did something super sneaky. He got on an airplane and told the people working there that he had a bomb! He wanted lots of money, $200,000, and four parachutes.
After the plane landed, he got the money and parachutes, then he jumped out of the plane while it was flying! No one knows if he landed safely or where he went. It's like a real-life adventure story, but nobody knows the ending!
A Plane Ride Gone Wild!
It all happened on a cloudy day in 1971. The plane was flying from Portland to Seattle. Cooper was a passenger, but he wasn't like other passengers.
He was very calm and asked for his demands. After landing in Seattle, he let everyone else go. Then, he told the pilots to fly the plane again, but this time, he wanted to fly to Mexico City!
He opened the back door of the plane and jumped out with a parachute into the dark, rainy sky.
The Case of the Missing Money
Years and years later, in 1980, some of the money that Cooper got was found! It was buried near a river. This made everyone wonder even more about him.
The police looked and looked for him, but they never found out who he really was or what happened to him. It’s one of the biggest mysteries ever. The police even had a special name for him, but it was a mistake!
A reporter got his name wrong, and now everyone calls him D. B. Cooper.
Why We Still Talk About Him
Because no one knows what happened to D. B. Cooper, it’s a super famous mystery.
It’s the only time someone has ever hijacked a plane and disappeared like that. After this happened, airports got much safer. They started using metal detectors to check bags and people.
They even made special parts for some planes so the back stairs couldn't be opened in the air! It made flying much safer for everyone.
