Crossbow

A crossbow is like a super-powered bow and arrow! Instead of holding the string back with your hands, a crossbow has a special trigger. You pull the string back and lock it in place, then just pull the trigger to shoot.

This makes it easier to aim and shoot with a lot of power. It looks a bit like a rifle, with a stock to hold against your shoulder and a bow attached to the front. It’s a cool invention that was used a long, long time ago!

Crossbows are super old! People think they were first invented in ancient China, maybe as far back as 7th century BC. That's older than your grandparents' grandparents!

Later, they showed up in Europe and became really important for soldiers. Imagine knights in shining armor using these! They were a big deal for hunting too, helping people catch food from a distance.

It’s amazing how long people have been using them.

Then, you put a bolt (which is like a short arrow) onto the front. When you're ready, you pull the trigger. This releases the nut, and the stored energy in the bowstring snaps forward, shooting the bolt with great speed!
