County of London

The County of London was a special area in England, right where London is today! Think of it as the heart of a much bigger city. It was like a big playground that was super important for a long time. It wasn't a separate country, but a special part of England that had its own rules and helpers.

This special county started way back in 1889, which is older than your grandparents and even your great-grandparents! It was created to help manage the city better. For 76 years, it was in charge of many things, like making sure roads were good and schools were running. Then, in 1965, it became part of an even bigger area called Greater London.

Lots and lots of people lived in the County of London! Over the years, many people decided to move to the edges of the city, like moving to a new house in a different neighborhood. People worked in all sorts of jobs, from building things to helping others. It was a busy place with people from all walks of life living and working together.

The County of London had a special group called the London County Council. This was like a club of people who made important decisions for the area. They helped with things like building schools and making sure the city was a good place to live. They were like the grown-ups making sure everything ran smoothly for everyone.
