Where the Magic Happens!

Citi Field is a super big baseball stadium in a park called Flushing Meadows–Corona Park. It's in Queens, which is one of the neighborhoods in New York City. Imagine a giant playground just for baseball games! This is where the New York Mets team plays their games. It's a place filled with cheers, home runs, and lots of fun for everyone who loves baseball.

A New Home for the Mets!

Before Citi Field was built, the Mets played in another stadium called Shea Stadium. But Shea Stadium got old, so they built a brand new, shiny stadium right next door! Citi Field opened its doors in 2009. It was built to be a modern and exciting place for fans to watch their favorite team hit home runs and make amazing catches.

Big Bucks for a Big Ballpark!

Building a stadium this big costs a LOT of money, like more than a thousand million dollars! Some of that money came from the city, but the Mets promised to pay it back. The stadium also has a special name, Citi Field, because a company called Citigroup paid a lot of money to have their name on it. It's like when your school gets a new playground and a company helps pay for it!

The First Big Game!

The very first game played at Citi Field wasn't even a Mets game! It was a game between two college teams. But the first real Mets game happened soon after, and it was a special exhibition game. Then, on April 13, 2009, the Mets played their very first regular-season game there against the San Diego Padres. Imagine being one of the first fans to ever see a game in this amazing stadium!
