Chester A. Arthur

Chester A. Arthur was the 21st president of the United States, serving from 1881 to 1885. He was like a surprise guest who suddenly had to lead the whole country! Before becoming president, he was the Vice President. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1829, and lived in a place called Vermont. He wasn't always a politician; he was also a lawyer and helped during a big war called the Civil War.

When President James A. Garfield was sadly hurt, Chester A. Arthur had to step in and become the president.
