Zoom! Meet the Speedy Cheetah!

Imagine a super-fast runner with a long, slender body, long legs, and a long tail that helps it balance. That's a cheetah! They are spotted cats, like a leopard, but much thinner and built for speed.

Cheetahs are the fastest animals on land, able to run as fast as a car on a highway! They have special claws that are not fully retractable, like a cat's, which help them grip the ground when they run super fast.

Where Do Cheetahs Live?

Cheetahs mostly live in Africa, in wide-open grassy areas called savannas and grasslands. Think of huge fields where they can see far away and run without bumping into trees. Sometimes, you can also find them in parts of Iran. These places have lots of sunshine and are perfect for cheetahs to hunt their favorite foods. They need big spaces to run and find their meals.

What's for Dinner?

Cheetahs are carnivores, which means they only eat meat! Their favorite meals are small to medium-sized animals like gazelles and impalas. They are amazing hunters because they are so fast. They spot their prey from far away, creep closer, and then burst into a super-speed chase. It's like a game of tag, but the cheetah needs to catch its dinner to survive!

Cheetah Babies and Their Future

Cheetah moms have little cubs that are born blind and helpless. They stay with their mom for about a year and a half, learning how to hunt and survive. Sadly, cheetahs are in trouble. There aren't as many of them as there used to be, so they are called 'vulnerable'. This means we need to help protect their homes and make sure they can keep running free.
