Where in the World is Chang'an?
Chang'an was a super important city in China, in a place called Shaanxi Province. It sat near a big river called the Wei River. Think of it like a special spot that many ancient Chinese rulers loved to call home. It was a capital city for a really, really long time, from way back before dinosaurs to when knights were around!
A City Fit for Emperors!
Chang'an was the capital for some of China's most famous dynasties, like the Han and the Tang. It was so big that sometimes it was the largest city on Earth! Imagine a city with almost a million people living inside its walls. That's like having a whole bunch of schools all packed together!
What Did They Do There?
People in Chang'an did all sorts of things. They built amazing palaces, like Weiyang Palace, which was HUGE โ almost seven times bigger than the Forbidden City! They farmed, they traded, and they lived their lives. It was a busy place where people from all over the world might have visited.
From Chang'an to Xi'an
Even though Chang'an was a grand city, its name changed over time. During the Ming Dynasty, people started calling it Xi'an. Today, Xi'an is still a very important city in China, and you can still see parts of its ancient walls that were built long ago.
