Cerro de Pasco

Cerro de Pasco is like a secret hideout perched way, way up in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It's so high, it's one of the highest cities anywhere on Earth! Think of climbing to the very top of a super-tall skyscraper, but instead of just one building, it's a whole city!

The air is thin and crisp, and the views are amazing. It's a place where people live and work, surrounded by incredible mountain scenery.

Long ago, people discovered that the ground around Cerro de Pasco was full of shiny treasures like silver, copper, zinc, and lead. These are special metals that people use to make all sorts of things, from coins to buildings to electronics. Because of these valuable metals, Cerro de Pasco became a very important place for mining.

Miners dig deep into the earth to bring these treasures to the surface, which helps the city grow and thrive.

People can travel to and from this amazing city using roads and even a special train called the Ferrocarril Central Andino. This train is like a super-long snake winding its way through the mountains, connecting Cerro de Pasco to the capital city, Lima.

It's a long journey, but it helps people and goods move around.
