Carl Ritter

Imagine a super-smart person who loved learning about the whole world! That was Carl Ritter. He was born a long, long time ago, way back in 1779.

Carl wasn't an explorer who climbed mountains or sailed ships to new lands. Instead, he was a super-detective of places! He read tons of books and looked at maps to figure out how our Earth is shaped and why it's so special.

Before Carl Ritter, people didn't think of studying places as a super important job. But Carl thought it was amazing! He worked with another smart friend, Alexander von Humboldt, to show everyone that learning about Earth's lands, rivers, and mountains was a real science.
