Have you ever looked up at a really tall tree and seen all its leaves and branches spread out? When lots of trees grow close together, their tops join up to make a giant, leafy roof called a canopy! It’s like the forest is wearing a big, green hat way up high. This leafy roof is so thick, it can block out the sun from reaching the ground below. It’s a whole world up there!

Getting a good look at the canopy used to be super tricky! Scientists would stand on the ground and use binoculars, or wait for leaves and twigs to fall down. Sometimes they even used chairs tied to vines or hot air balloons to get a better view! This busy place is super important for keeping the whole forest healthy and full of different kinds of life.
