The Cainozoic: When Mammals Ruled!

The Cainozoic is like a super long chapter in Earth's story, starting about 66 million years ago and going all the way to today! It's called the Age of Mammals because after the dinosaurs disappeared, mammals got a chance to grow and change. They became super diverse, meaning there were tons of different kinds, from tiny mice to giant elephants.

This era is when many of the animals we know today, like horses, whales, and even our ancestors, started to appear and evolve.

When the giant dinosaurs vanished, the world changed a lot! It was like a big reset button for life on Earth. With no more huge dinosaurs around, smaller animals like mammals could come out of hiding and explore.

They started to eat different foods and live in all sorts of places, like forests, oceans, and even icy lands. This allowed them to get bigger and stronger, and new kinds of plants also started to grow, giving them even more food options.

During the Cainozoic, some truly incredible creatures lived! Think of woolly mammoths, which were like giant furry elephants, or saber-toothed cats with enormous teeth, perfect for hunting. There were also giant ground sloths that were as big as a bus!

And don't forget the early horses and rhinos. This was a time of amazing animal giants and incredible variety, all thanks to the changes that happened after the dinosaurs were gone.

Guess what? We humans are part of the Cainozoic story too! Our very early ancestors, like the apes, appeared during this time. Over millions of years, they slowly changed and evolved into modern humans. So, the Cainozoic is not just about ancient animals; it's about how we came to be! It's the era that shaped the world we live in and the animals we share it with today.
