Key Facts
Meet the Jumbo Jet!
Imagine an airplane so big it looks like a flying whale! That’s the Boeing 747, also called the 'Jumbo Jet'. It was the first super-big airplane that could carry lots and lots of people. It has four engines, which are like giant fans that push the plane through the sky. Its special shape, with a raised cockpit, made it look like it had a big hump on its back!
Where Did This Giant Come From?
A long time ago, in 1965, a smart engineer named Joe Sutter started designing this amazing plane. People wanted a plane that could carry more people than ever before. The very first 747 was built in a super-duper big factory, the biggest building in the world at that time! It first flew in 1969, and soon after, it started taking passengers on exciting adventures all over the world.
Why Is It So Special?
The Boeing 747 was a game-changer for flying! It could carry so many people, about 366, which is more than a whole school bus full of kids and teachers! This meant that flying could become more affordable for more families. It was also designed so it could be turned into a cargo plane to carry lots of packages, making it super useful for delivering things too.
Amazing Flying Machine!
This giant plane can fly super fast, almost as fast as a race car! It has a special wing shape that helps it fly smoothly. To land and take off, it has four sets of wheels, with four wheels in each set, to help carry its heavy weight. It’s like having a lot of strong legs to stand on!
