Bestla (moon)

Imagine a tiny moon, smaller than many cities on Earth, that looks like a giant, bumpy potato! That's Bestla! It's one of Saturn's many moons, and it's super small. Bestla is so tiny that if you could hold it, it would fit in your hands. It's not round like a ball; it's more like a rocky, uneven shape. It spins around Saturn, which is a beautiful planet famous for its rings.

Bestla is a moon, which means it orbits a planet. In Bestla's case, its planet is Saturn. It takes Bestla a little over 10 hours to go all the way around Saturn once. That's super fast compared to Earth's moon, which takes about a month! Bestla is made of ice and rock, just like many other moons in our solar system. It's a very cold place, far away from the Sun.

Bestla wasn't always known to us. Scientists discovered it in 2004 using a special telescope called the Hubble Space Telescope. They were looking closely at Saturn and its moons when they spotted this little potato-shaped world. It's amazing that we can see such small things so far away in space with powerful telescopes!

Even though Bestla is small, scientists love studying it! It helps them understand how moons form and change over billions of years. Because Bestla is so lumpy and uneven, it tells us that it might have been broken apart and then stuck back together a long, long time ago. It's like a puzzle piece from space!
