A Day That Went Wrong!

On September 1, 2004, it was the first day of school in Beslan, Russia. Kids were excited to see their friends and teachers. But suddenly, some very bad people with guns took over the school! They locked everyone inside, and it became a scary situation that lasted for three whole days. It was a very sad time for everyone involved.

Who Were the Bad Guys?

The people who took over the school were called terrorists. They wanted to make big changes in Russia. They were angry about something happening in a place called Chechnya. They wanted the leaders of Russia to listen to them. They held over 1,100 people, including 777 children, as hostages. That's more people than can fit on a whole school bus!

A Scary Ending

After three long days, the police and soldiers had to go into the school to save the people. It was a very dangerous situation. Sadly, many people lost their lives, including 186 children. It was a very, very sad event. This is known as the deadliest school event of its kind in history, which is a very sad fact.
