Battle of Langside

Imagine you're a queen, but then people say you can't be queen anymore! That's what happened to Mary, Queen of Scots. She was forced to give her crown to her baby son, James. She was locked up in a castle, but she was super brave and escaped! She wanted to get her kingdom back, but a big battle was waiting for her.

On a sunny day in May, Mary's soldiers met the soldiers who were protecting her son. They fought on a hill called Langside. It was a very important battle! Mary's soldiers were hoping to win and get her crown back, but the other side was strong. The fight was fierce, and it decided a lot of things.

Sadly for Mary, her soldiers didn't win the battle. She was defeated, and it meant she couldn't be queen of Scotland anymore. She had to make a very difficult choice. She decided to go to England, hoping for help, but instead, she became a prisoner there for many, many years. It was a very sad ending for her time as queen.

This battle was like the start of a big, long argument called a civil war. It showed that Mary's time as queen was really over. Even though she was a queen, she ended up losing her kingdom and her freedom because of this fight. It's a reminder that even powerful people can face big challenges and tough choices.
