Battle of Formigny

Long, long ago, England and France were in a super long fight called the Hundred Years' War. It was like a really, really long game of tag that lasted over 100 years! The English had taken over a part of France called Normandy, and the French really wanted it back. The Battle of Formigny was a super important moment in this big, old war.

On April 15, 1450, a huge battle happened near a place called Formigny. The French army had a secret weapon: cannons! These were like giant metal tubes that shot fiery balls. Imagine a cannonball being as big as a playground ball! The English army didn't expect these loud, booming cannons to be used on an open field like this. It was a big surprise for them!

Because of the surprise cannons and the brave French soldiers, the French army won a HUGE victory. They beat the English army so badly that it was like the English lost all their best players. This win meant the French could start taking back all the other parts of Normandy they had lost. It was a turning point in the long war!

This battle is super cool because it showed how new inventions could change how wars were fought. Before this, cannons were mostly used to break down castle walls. But at Formigny, they used them right in the middle of the fighting! It was one of the first times cannons were used like this on a battlefield, and it helped show the world that war was about to get a lot louder and more explosive!
