The Battle of Berlin

The Battle of Berlin took place in a huge city called Berlin, which was the capital of Germany. Think of it like the biggest city in your country! It was a very important place. The fighting happened right in the streets, parks, and buildings of the city. It was a very busy and crowded place before the battle, but the fighting made it very different.

Before the big battle, armies were getting ready. One side, called the Soviet Union, had stopped for a little while, like taking a break during a game. But then, they got ready to start again! The other side, Germany, made a plan to defend their capital city. They built defenses around the city, like building a fort. It was a very serious plan to protect their home.

When the Soviet armies started their big push, they came from different directions, like a surprise attack from all sides! They surrounded the city first. Then, on a special day, Hitler's birthday, they started to shell the city center. Imagine loud booms and shaking ground! The soldiers defending the city were tired and some were very young, like teenagers.

For about a week, the fighting was very tough. The Soviet armies slowly took control of the whole city. Sadly, the leader of Germany, Hitler, ended his own life. The soldiers in Berlin surrendered soon after. But even after that, some fighting continued outside the city until the war in Europe was completely over. It was a very important moment that helped end the big war.
