Key Facts
Who Wanted to Be King?
Long, long ago, in the year 1707, Spain had a big problem. Two people wanted to be the king! One was named Philip, and the other was called Charles. It was like a game of musical chairs, but for a whole country! People had to pick sides, and this disagreement led to a huge battle.
The Big Showdown!
On a sunny day, April 25th, 1707, two big armies met near a town called Almansa. One army was for Philip, and the other was for Charles. They were like two giant teams ready to play a very serious game. The battle was super important because it would decide who would rule Spain!
Who Was in Charge?
The armies had leaders with cool names! Philip's army was led by the Duke of Berwick. Charles's army was led by the Earl of Galway. It's a funny thing that the French army was led by an Englishman, and the English army was led by a Frenchman! Isn't that a silly mix-up?
And the Winner Is...!
After a lot of fighting, Philip's army won the battle! This meant that most of the eastern part of Spain now belonged to Philip. It was a big win for him and his team. This battle helped decide who would be the king of Spain for a very long time.
