Hoops Heroes Take the Court!

Imagine a super-fast game where players dribble, pass, and shoot a ball into a hoop high off the ground. That's basketball! At the Summer Olympics, the best teams from many countries come to play. They dream of winning a shiny gold medal. It's a game of teamwork, speed, and amazing skill. The crowd cheers loudly with every amazing play!

How to Score Big Points!

In Olympic basketball, two teams play against each other. Each team has five players on the court at a time. The goal is to throw the ball through the hoop, which is 10 feet high โ€“ that's taller than a giraffe! Players can run with the ball only if they bounce it (dribble). If they stop dribbling and pick up the ball, they can't run with it. It's a fast-paced game with lots of exciting moments!

When Did the Games Begin?

Basketball wasn't always an Olympic sport! It was first shown as a fun demonstration game in 1904 and again in 1924. But it officially became a medal sport for men in 1936. That's a super long time ago! Women's basketball joined the Olympics much later, in 1976. So, men have been playing for basketball gold for many more years than women.

Superstar Teams and Amazing Wins!

The United States has won the most gold medals in Olympic basketball. Their men's teams have won almost all the tournaments they've played in! Their women's teams are also super strong and have won lots of gold medals too. Other countries like Argentina have also won gold. It's exciting to see different nations compete for the top prize!
