Barometer: The Amazing Air Pressure Finder!

A very smart Italian scientist named Evangelista Torricelli invented the first barometer way back in 1643. He was curious about why water pumps couldn't lift water very high. He realized it was because of the air pushing down!

His first barometer was a long glass tube filled with mercury, turned upside down in a dish of mercury. The mercury in the tube would go up and down, showing the air pressure. It was a bit like a science experiment!

Barometers are super important because they help us predict the weather! When the air pressure drops, it often means a storm is on its way. If the air pressure goes up, it usually means clear skies and good weather. This helps people plan their days, like knowing if they need to bring an umbrella or if it's a good day for a picnic.
