Where is Asturias?

Imagine a beautiful place in the northwest corner of Spain, like the top-left of a map! Asturias is bordered by the big, blue Cantabrian Sea to the north. To the east, it touches Cantabria, to the south it meets León, and to the west, it's next to Lugo. It's a land filled with lots of green trees and plants, making it part of a special area called 'Green Spain'.

Mountains and Rain!

Asturias is a very green place because it gets lots of rain, more than many other parts of Spain! It has a mild climate, which means it's not too hot or too cold. The summers are pleasant, and the winters are gentle, especially near the sea. Tall mountains help block the hot winds, keeping the air fresh and cool. It's like having a natural air conditioner!

Big Cities and Tiny Towns

The most important city in Asturias is Oviedo, which is the capital. Then there's Gijón, a big city by the sea where ships come and go. Avilés is another important town known for its industries. But Asturias also has many smaller towns and villages, like Cangas de Onís and Llanes, where people live and work. There are eight special areas called 'comarcas' that divide up the land.

A Kingdom from Long Ago

A long, long time ago, Asturias was a very important kingdom! It was called the Kingdom of Asturias. Today, the area is an 'autonomous community,' which means it has its own special way of making decisions. It's a place with a rich past and a beautiful, green present, waiting for you to explore!
