Ascensor da Glória: The Wobbly Hill Climber!

The Ascensor da Glória is like a special elevator that runs on tracks up a very, very steep hill in a city called Lisbon. It's not a regular train; it's a funicular! It helps people travel from a busy downtown square all the way up to a beautiful garden with amazing views. It's one of only three of these special hill-climbing trains in the whole city!

This amazing hill climber first started giving rides way back in 1885! That's older than your grandparents' grandparents! For a long time, it used to be pulled by a cable, but then, in 1915, it got a super cool upgrade and started using electricity to zoom up the hill. It’s been helping people explore Lisbon for over a hundred years!

The Ascensor da Glória is super important because it makes it easy for everyone to get to the top of the hill and see the fantastic views from the São Pedro de Alcântara Garden. This funicular has two little train cars that are connected by a strong cable. When one car goes up the hill, the other car goes down at the same time! They are like best friends helping each other.
