Meet the Super-Sized Animal Family!

Arthropods are the largest group of animals on our planet, making up over 80% of all known animal species! Think of them as the ultimate survivors. They have a tough outer shell called an exoskeleton, which is like their armor.

This shell helps protect them and gives them a strong body. They also have special jointed legs, which is how they got their name – 'arthro' means joint and 'podos' means foot!

Where Do These Critters Live?

Arthropods are everywhere! You can find them in the deepest oceans, on the highest mountains, in hot deserts, and even in your backyard. Some live in the soil, some fly through the air, and others swim in the water. They are super adaptable and have figured out how to live in almost every place on Earth, from the icy poles to the steamy rainforests.

What's for Dinner?

Arthropods have very different diets. Some, like butterflies and bees, sip sweet nectar from flowers. Others, like spiders and scorpions, are hunters and eat other insects or small animals. Many, like beetles and caterpillars, munch on plants. This variety in what they eat helps them survive in so many different places.

Why Arthropods Are Awesome!

Arthropods are super important! Bees and butterflies help flowers grow by moving pollen around. Ants and beetles help clean up dead plants and animals. Some arthropods, like shrimp and crabs, are yummy food for us and other animals. Without them, our world would be a very different place!
