Apolaki Caldera

Even though it's a caldera, which means it was made by a volcano, the Apolaki Caldera has been sleeping for a very, very long time. We're talking millions of years! That's longer than dinosaurs were around. So, it's not going to wake up and cause any trouble anytime soon. It's just a quiet, giant underwater feature.

Guess what? This amazing giant hole was only found in 2019! A super smart scientist named Jenny Anne Barretto and her team were exploring the ocean. They used special tools to discover this massive caldera. It shows us that there are still so many amazing things to find in our world, even in the deep ocean!
