Antananarivo

Imagine a city sitting way, way up high, like on the tippy-top of a very tall mountain! That's Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. It's so high, it's like being on the roof of the world for an island country!

A long, long time ago, around 400 years back, a king named Andrianjaka decided this was the perfect spot for his new home. He built a special royal house called a 'rova' on a hill. Later, another king renamed it Antananarivo, which means 'City of a Thousand'.

This was to honor the brave soldiers who protected it. For many years, it was the heart of a powerful kingdom, and even today, important leaders still work and live here.

Antananarivo is a super popular place, and lots of people call it home! It's the biggest city in all of Madagascar. People from all over the island, and even from other countries like China and India, live here together. There are lots of schools, fun places to go, and even a zoo! It's a place where different cultures mix, making it a vibrant and exciting city to explore.

In Antananarivo, people love sports, especially rugby! They also enjoy music and art. The city has many beautiful old buildings, like royal palaces and churches, that tell stories of the past. There are also busy markets where you can find all sorts of treasures. Even though it's a big city with lots of people, it's a place full of history and culture waiting to be discovered.
