Angel of Independence

High up in Mexico City, there's a super tall statue called the Angel of Independence. It's a beautiful golden angel with wings, holding a laurel wreath and a broken chain. She stands on top of a tall column, like a queen on her throne! This angel is a famous landmark, meaning lots of people know her and she's a symbol of Mexico. She's like a superhero for the city, watching over everyone.

This amazing angel was built a long, long time ago, in 1910. That's over 100 years ago! It was a special birthday present for Mexico to celebrate 100 years since the start of their fight for freedom. The person who designed her was an architect named Antonio Rivas Mercado. He wanted to make something grand and beautiful to remember this important time in Mexico's history.

The Angel of Independence isn't just pretty to look at. She's also a special place where Mexico remembers its heroes. Inside the column, there are tombs for important people who helped Mexico become free. So, when people see the angel, they think about bravery and freedom. She's also a meeting spot for big celebrations, like when Mexico wins a game, and sometimes for important talks too.
