Amphora Workshop of Fasana

Long, long ago, in a place called Fasana, there was a special workshop. It wasn't like a modern factory with noisy machines. Instead, skilled people used their hands to make big clay pots called amphorae.

These pots were super important for carrying and storing all sorts of things, like olive oil, wine, and grains. Think of them as ancient giant water bottles, but for many different kinds of treasures!

Making an amphora was a big job! First, workers found the best clay, which is like special mud. They mixed it with water until it was just right.

Then, they shaped the clay into a huge pot, often on a spinning wheel. It took a lot of strength and skill to make them so big and strong. After shaping, they let them dry and then baked them in a super hot oven called a kiln.

This made the clay hard and ready for use.

These giant pots were like the delivery trucks and storage bins of ancient times! People used them to move goods all over the sea. Imagine filling a giant amphora with olive oil and sending it on a boat to another country.

They were also used to keep food fresh and safe in homes and warehouses. Without these sturdy pots, it would have been much harder to share food and drinks across long distances.

Amphorae weren't just for one thing. They were used for all sorts of important items! Most often, they carried liquids like wine and olive oil, which were very valuable. But they could also hold grains, honey, and even fish sauce. Some amphorae were decorated with paintings, while others were plain. The shape of the amphora often told people what was inside, like a secret code on a giant pot!
