Ali Abdullah Saleh

Ali Abdullah Saleh was a very important person in the country of Yemen. He was born in a village called Al-Ahmar in Yemen. For many, many years, he was the leader of Yemen, first as president and then as a different kind of leader. He was like the captain of a big ship, guiding Yemen through different times. He was in charge for over 30 years, which is longer than most kids are old!

Saleh became the leader of North Yemen in 1978. Then, in 1990, North Yemen and South Yemen joined together to become one country: Yemen! Saleh was the first president of this new, united Yemen.
