Agrivoltaics: Sunshine and Snacks!

This clever idea was first thought up a long, long time ago, back in 1981! Two smart people, Adolf Goetzberger and Armin Zastrow, imagined a way for farms and solar power to work together. They saw that the sun could give us energy and also help plants grow. It took some time for people to build these special farms, but now they are popping up in more places, helping us get food and clean energy.

These special farms are awesome because they help farmers in many ways! The solar panels can act like a shady umbrella for plants, keeping them cool and helping them hold onto water, especially when it’s very hot. They can also give animals like sheep or chickens a nice, cool place to rest.
