2025 New York City Democratic mayoral primary

New York City is a super-duper busy place, like a giant playground with millions of people! This special vote, called a primary, happened on June 24, 2025. It's where people who want to be the city's boss, the mayor, try to get chosen by their political team, the Democrats. Think of it like picking the captain of your soccer team before the big game!

This wasn't just picking one person. New Yorkers got to rank up to five people they liked, from number one to number five! It's called ranked-choice voting. On election night, it looked like Zohran Mamdani was way ahead! But then, another person, Andrew Cuomo, who used to be a governor, said Zohran Mamdani had won. This was a big surprise, like finding out your quietest classmate is actually the best at tag! Zohran Mamdani became the official choice for the Democrats.
