2016 Manila Local Elections: Who Got to Lead the Big City!

Manila is a super busy city in the Philippines, a country made of lots of islands! It's like a giant playground where millions of people live and play. Think of it as the heart of the Philippines, where lots of important things happen. It's a place full of tall buildings, busy streets, and lots of fun things to see and do, just like a huge, exciting city you might visit on vacation!

On May 9, 2016, the grown-ups in Manila got to vote for their leaders. It was like picking the captain of your soccer team or the president of your class! They chose who would be the mayor, the person in charge of the whole city, and other helpers called councilors who make rules. It's a very important job to pick leaders who will make the city a great place for everyone.

The most exciting race was for mayor! Joseph Estrada, who was already the mayor, wanted to be the boss for another three years. He had a close race against Alfredo Lim, who used to be the mayor too! It was like a super close game of tag, where only a few votes made the difference. Joseph Estrada won by a little bit, so he got to keep leading Manila!

Besides the mayor, they also picked a vice mayor. This person is like the mayor's best friend and helps them out a lot. Dr. Maria Sheilah Lacuna-Pangan, who people called 'Honey,' won the vote to be the vice mayor. She got lots and lots of votes, showing that many people thought she would be a great helper for the city!
