Imagine a giant winter party where athletes from all over the world come to show off their coolest snow and ice skills! That was the 2014 Winter Olympics, held in a beautiful place called Sochi, Russia. It was like a super-duper sports festival, with athletes competing in all sorts of exciting games like skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating. They all dreamed of winning a shiny medal!
Snowy Sports and Icy Games!
At the Olympics, there were 15 different kinds of winter sports. Think of skiing down a giant hill super fast, or doing amazing tricks on a snowboard. There was also figure skating, where people twirl and jump on the ice like ballerinas, and ice hockey, a super fast game played with sticks and a puck. A record 98 different events happened, meaning lots of chances for athletes to shine!
Sochi's Super Snowy Stadiums!
The games happened in two main places. One was a special Olympic Park right by the sea, with a big stadium called the Fisht Olympic Stadium. The other place was up in the mountains, in a snowy town called Krasnaya Polyana, perfect for all the snow sports. It was like building two amazing playgrounds just for the Olympics!
The Most Expensive Games EVER!
Guess what? The 2014 Sochi Olympics were the most expensive Olympics ever! They spent a HUGE amount of money, way more than building a giant castle. It was so much money that it was more than three times what they spent on the Olympics in London a few years before. People all around the world watched on TV, with over 2 billion people tuning in!
