Why Did the Fighting Start?

Sometimes, big arguments happen between groups of people. In 2014, there was a big fight between Israel and a group called Hamas, which leads in Gaza. It all started after some teenagers went missing and were later found to have been hurt.

This made many people very upset and led to a lot of anger. Then, rockets started flying from Gaza towards Israel, and Israel started to fight back. It was a very sad time for everyone involved.

Rockets and Tunnels: What Happened?

During the fighting, rockets were shot from Gaza into Israel. Israel has a special shield called the Iron Dome that can catch many of these rockets, like a superhero catching bad guys! But some rockets still landed.

Israel also sent soldiers into Gaza to find and destroy secret tunnels that Hamas used. These tunnels were like hidden pathways underground. The fighting lasted for seven weeks, which is almost two months!

Who Was Hurt?

Sadly, many people were hurt during this war. Most of the people who lost their lives were from Gaza, and many of them were children. Homes were also damaged or destroyed, making it hard for families to live there. A few people in Israel also lost their lives. It shows how fighting can bring sadness to many families on both sides.

Trying to Make Peace

After a lot of fighting, people on both sides decided they needed to stop. They agreed to a ceasefire, which means everyone stops shooting. This was a big step towards trying to find a way for everyone to live peacefully. Even though the fighting stopped, it was important for people to remember what happened and try to learn from it.
