They ran faster than a cheetah, jumped higher than a bouncy castle, and swam like speedy fish. It was a time filled with cheering crowds and amazing moments that everyone remembered.
Games, Games, and More Games!
At the Olympics, there are tons of different sports! Athletes compete in races, jumping contests, swimming, and so much more. Everyone tries their very best to win a medal, like gold, silver, or bronze. The 1960 Games were extra special because they were the first time the Paralympic Games happened at the same time. This meant athletes with disabilities also got to compete and shine!
Rome's Olympic Adventure
Rome was supposed to host the Olympics way back in 1908! But then, a volcano named Mount Vesuvius erupted, causing a lot of trouble. Because of this, Rome had to let London, England, have the Games instead. So, when Rome finally got to host in 1960, it was a dream come true for the city and everyone who loved sports!
Who Was the Super Star?
In Rome, one country was super good at winning medals: the Soviet Union! They won the most gold medals and the most medals overall. This means their athletes were incredibly talented and trained very hard. It shows how much dedication it takes to be an Olympic champion and represent your country on the world stage.
