Zeng Laishun

Zeng Laishun was a very special person who lived a long, long time ago, from 1826 to 1895. He was like a bridge between China and other countries! He was a translator, which means he helped people understand each other when they spoke different languages.

He was also a businessman, which means he helped trade things, and a teacher, helping others learn. He was one of the very first Chinese people to go to a college in another country!

Zeng Laishun was born in Singapore, a busy island country. His dad was from China, and his mom was from Malaysia. Sadly, he lost his parents when he was very little.

But good people helped him! He went to a special school run by people who wanted to share their beliefs. They taught him English and he learned a lot.

Then, guess what? They sent him all the way to America in 1843, when he was just 17 years old!

In America, Zeng Laishun went to a college called Hamilton College. He wanted to learn even more! Later, he went back to China and worked as a helper for people sharing their ideas.

Then, he moved to Shanghai and became a trader. But his biggest adventure was when the Chinese government asked him to help send young boys to America to study! He traveled with them as their teacher and translator, making sure everyone understood each other.

Zeng Laishun was super important because he helped China learn from the rest of the world. He helped Chinese students go to America and learn new things. He also worked with leaders from different countries to talk and make important decisions.

He even traveled to Cuba to see how people were treated. He was like a superhero translator and teacher, making the world a little smaller and more connected!
