ZAD de Notre-Dame-des-Landes

ZAD stands for 'Zone to Defend'. It's a super big piece of land, about 1,650 hectares. That's like having over 3,000 soccer fields all in one place! This special place is near a town in France called Notre-Dame-des-Landes. People there wanted to protect this land from being turned into a giant airport. They decided to live there and make it their own community instead!

For a long, long time, grown-ups wanted to build a new airport on this land. But the people who lived nearby and loved the fields said, 'No way!' They didn't want their farms and nature to be replaced by runways. So, they moved onto the land and started building their own homes and farms.
