Meet the Giant Yellow Sub!

Have you ever seen a submarine? They usually go underwater! But this one is a giant sculpture that stays on land.

It's painted a super bright yellow, just like in the famous Beatles song and movie called 'Yellow Submarine'. It looks like it's ready to dive into an adventure, even though it's made of strong steel and is as long as a school bus! It's a really cool piece of art that makes people smile.

Who Built This Big Toy?

This amazing Yellow Submarine wasn't built by just one person. About 80 clever apprentices from a shipyard, called Cammell Laird's, worked together to build it. They were like a super team! They designed it to be shown at a big festival in Liverpool in 1984. It was part of a special garden that was shaped like a giant apple and had lots of fun things about The Beatles, a super famous band.

What's Inside the Sub?

Even though it's a sculpture, this Yellow Submarine has some neat surprises! Inside, there's a pretend control room, just like a real submarine would have. It even has real equipment from a submarine!

You can climb up two twisty staircases to get to the top, called the bridge. From there, you can see everything around, like looking out over a playground. It's painted bright yellow and tilted, making it look like it's about to zoom away!

Where Does the Sub Live Now?

After the big festival, the Yellow Submarine found a new home in a park in the city. Lots of cars could see it driving by! For a while, it needed some fixing up because it got a bit old.

But then, in 2005, it was beautifully repaired and moved to the Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Now, instead of planes, visitors can see this awesome Yellow Submarine! It's like saying, 'We have something special here too!'
