Key Facts
Who Was In The Game?
World War I was a huge fight that happened a long, long time ago, from 1914 to 1918. It involved many countries all over the world. Think of it like a giant game of tag, but with serious consequences. Millions of soldiers were part of this game, and sadly, many got hurt or didn't come home. It was a very sad time for families everywhere.
How Many People Were Affected?
It's hard to imagine, but about 40 million people were affected by World War I. That's more people than live in many big cities combined! Out of those, around 15 to 22 million people sadly died. That's like emptying out a whole country! Many more were injured and had to recover. It was a very, very big number of people.
Fighting vs. Sickness
In older wars, most people got sick. But in World War I, about two out of every three soldiers who died were actually hurt in battles. That's a big change! However, sickness was still a problem. Many soldiers got sick from diseases, and some even got sick during a big flu outbreak called the 1918 flu pandemic. It was tough for everyone.
Why We Remember
Even though World War I ended a long time ago, it's important to learn about it. It helps us understand how sad wars can be and why we should try to find peaceful ways to solve problems. Remembering the people who were hurt or lost reminds us to be thankful for peace and to help each other.
