Meet the Giant Mountains!

The Wind River Range is a huge line of mountains in a state called Wyoming. They stretch out for about as long as 100 football fields put together! These mountains are so tall, their tops are covered in snow all year round. It's like a giant, snowy crown for the state. They are part of a bigger mountain family called the Rocky Mountains.

Super Tall Peaks for Superheroes!

The highest mountain here is called Gannett Peak. It's super, super tall, reaching almost 13,800 feet! That's way taller than a skyscraper or even a giant redwood tree. There are lots of other very tall mountains too, more than 40 of them are taller than 12,999 feet. It’s a place where only the bravest climbers dare to go!

Homes for Animals and Forests!

These mountains are home to amazing forests and lots of wild animals. Big forests called Shoshone and Bridger-Teton National Forests cover most of the mountains. These forests are like a giant playground for animals. The mountains are also part of a super important area called the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, which means they help keep lots of nature healthy.

Where the Wind Whispers Secrets

The name 'Wind River Range' is perfect because it can get very windy up high in the mountains. The wind blows through the valleys and over the peaks, making cool sounds. Sometimes, people who have lived in the area for a long time, like the Shoshone people, have special connections to these lands and their stories.
