Wet season
Key Facts
Splash Zone Adventures!
Imagine a time of year when it rains a LOT, for many days in a row! That's the wet season. It happens in places near the middle of the Earth, called the tropics and subtropics. Think of it like a giant sprinkler system for the planet! These places get most of their yearly rain all at once. It’s a super important time for plants and animals.
Why Does It Rain So Much?
The wet season happens because of how the Earth heats up and how air moves around. Sometimes, the air gets really full of water, like a sponge. When this super-wet air cools down, it has to let go of all that water, and it falls as rain! It’s like when you breathe on a cold window and see fog – that’s water coming out of your breath!
Nature's Big Drink!
When the wet season arrives, everything gets super green and grows really fast! Plants drink up all the water, and farmers can grow yummy foods like rice and corn. Rivers get bigger, sometimes even overflowing their banks! Some animals might move to higher ground to stay dry, while others love splashing around. It’s a time of big changes for nature.
Life in the Rain
Living in the wet season means getting used to lots of rain. Sometimes, the air feels cleaner after a big downpour. But, with all the water, some tiny bugs that can make people sick might become more common. People who live in these areas know how to prepare for the rain, planting crops that love the wetness and making sure their homes are safe from floods.
