Why Were They Upset?

A long, long time ago, in France, people were unhappy with their leaders. It was like when you're mad at your parents for making you eat broccoli! Some people in a place called the Vendée didn't like the new rules the government was making. They missed the old king and wanted things to go back to how they were before. So, they decided to fight back!

The Big Fight Begins!

In 1793, the people in the Vendée started a big rebellion. They formed their own army, called the 'Catholic and Royal Army'. They were pretty good at first and won some battles! They even took over some towns. But the government army was strong too, and they fought back hard. It was a very confusing and sad time for everyone involved.

A Sad Ending

The fighting went on for a few years. Sadly, many people got hurt or lost their homes. The government army was very powerful and eventually stopped the rebellion. It's estimated that a huge number of people, maybe even a quarter of everyone living in the Vendée, sadly passed away during this conflict. It was a very difficult period.

What Happened Next?

Even though the main fighting stopped, there were smaller arguments and fights for a little while longer. It took a long time for everyone to make peace. This war showed how important it is for people to agree on how their country should be run. It's a reminder that disagreements can lead to big problems if not solved peacefully.
