The Tree Hero of Kenya!

Imagine a superhero who doesn't wear a cape but plants trees! That's Wangari Maathai! She was born in Kenya, a beautiful country in Africa. When she was little, she noticed that the forests were shrinking, and the land wasn't as healthy as it used to be. Wangari loved nature and wanted to fix it. She had a brilliant idea: plant trees! Lots and lots of trees!

How She Made the Earth Smile

Wangari's plan was simple but powerful. She started a group called the Green Belt Movement. She taught women how to plant tiny tree seeds and care for them until they grew big and strong.

These women would then plant them in their communities. It was like a giant, green game of planting! They planted trees to stop the soil from washing away and to bring back animals.

It made the land healthy again!

Why Trees are Super Important!

Wangari knew trees are like the Earth's best friends. Trees give us clean air to breathe, just like giant air purifiers! They also give homes to birds and animals. When Wangari's trees grew, they helped stop floods and made sure there was clean water. Plus, they provided fruit and wood. She showed everyone that planting trees could make life better for people and the planet!

A Prize for Planting Power!

Because Wangari Maathai did such amazing work helping people and the environment, she won a very special award called the Nobel Peace Prize! It's one of the biggest honors in the world. She was the first African woman to win it. Her work showed that taking care of nature is a way to make peace and help everyone live happier lives. She planted over 30 million trees!
