Meet the Speedy Electric Trucks!

Long ago, before cars zoomed everywhere, there were special trucks called Walker Electric Trucks. These weren't like the trucks you see today. They were powered by electricity, just like your toys, but much bigger!

They were built in cities like Chicago and Detroit, helping people get their deliveries. Think of them as the super-quiet delivery helpers of the past, making deliveries without a loud engine noise.

From Horses to Electric Power!

Before these electric trucks, deliveries were made by horses pulling wagons. Horses were nice, but they could be a bit messy and were quite slow. The Walker trucks were a big change! They were much faster than horses, helping companies deliver things like milk and bread more quickly. This made customers very happy because their yummy treats arrived sooner!

How These Trucks Got Their Zing!

These trucks had a special electric motor that got its power from lots of batteries. It was like having a giant battery pack! At night, after a long day of delivering goodies, the trucks would be plugged in to recharge, ready for the next day.

They could travel about 50 miles, which is like driving from your house to a big amusement park and back, and they went as fast as you might walk or jog, about 10 to 12 miles per hour.

Trucks That Lasted and Lasted!

Some of these Walker trucks were so well-built that they kept working for many, many years, even after the company stopped making them! Some are now in museums for everyone to see, like a special old toy. One even went all the way to New Zealand and is still used today by a company called Orion New Zealand. It’s like a super-old toy that still works!
