Walden, New York

Imagine a place nestled in New York State, in a county called Orange. Walden is part of a bigger town called Montgomery. It's like a small town inside a larger neighborhood! It sits by a river named the Wallkill, which was super important a long, long time ago for making things.

Walden started as a place with mills that used the Wallkill River's power to spin wheels and make things. A man named Jacob Walden was a very good miller, and the village was named after him! Later, three factories that made knives became famous and helped the village grow bigger and busier.

Today, Walden is a place where families live and work. While the old knife factories are gone, other businesses are still there. People in Walden are part of a big, busy area called the New York metropolitan area, which means they are connected to lots of other towns and cities nearby.

In the year 2020, about 6,818 people lived in Walden. That's like filling up a big school playground with people! They all live in houses and apartments and go to school and work in and around the village. It's a friendly place with a lot of history.
