Meet the Rock Stars!

Imagine a super famous artist named Leonardo da Vinci painting a special picture. He painted it TWICE! These paintings are called the Virgin of the Rocks. They show the Virgin Mary, baby Jesus, baby John the Baptist (who was Jesus' cousin!), and a friendly angel. They are all sitting together in a cool, rocky cave. It's like a secret hideout for them!

Where Did They Go?

Leonardo made two versions of this painting, and they are like twins, but with some differences! One is in a famous museum in Paris called the Louvre. The other is in London. The Paris one is the older twin and hasn't been cleaned up much. The London one was cleaned and fixed a little bit. Both paintings are almost as tall as a grown-up person!

What's So Special?

These paintings are special because Leonardo was a genius artist! He was really good at making things look real, like the soft shadows and the plants. In the paintings, the angel is looking at you, and Mary is holding Jesus. John the Baptist is there too, and the angel is pointing. It's a beautiful story told with paint.

More Rocking Art!

Besides the main paintings, there are two other smaller pictures. These show angels playing musical instruments, like flutes! These were painted by Leonardo's helpers. So, when you see the Virgin of the Rocks paintings, you're seeing a whole art project with a famous artist and his team creating something magical in a rocky world.
