Key Facts
Meet the Vinča People!
Long before castles or even big cities, there were the Vinča people! They lived a super long time ago, between 5400 and 4500 BC. That's older than the ancient Egyptians and their pyramids!
They were some of the first farmers in their part of the world, growing food to feed their families and their communities. They lived in places that are now called Serbia and other countries nearby. They were very clever builders and artists!
Giant Villages and Pretty Pots
The Vinča people built some of the biggest villages in Europe back then. Some were so big, they were like small towns! They lived in houses made of mud and straw, piled up high.
What's really cool is their pottery. It was usually dark and shiny, and they made it with amazing skill. They also made little statues of people and animals.
These villages were like busy neighborhoods where everyone worked together.
Did They Invent Writing?
One of the most mysterious things about the Vinča culture is their symbols. They carved these strange signs onto their pottery and other objects. Some scientists think these might be the very first kind of writing ever invented, even before Egyptian hieroglyphs!
Imagine if these symbols told stories or kept records. It's like a secret code from thousands of years ago that we are still trying to understand.
Masters of Metal!
Believe it or not, the Vinča people were also early metalworkers! They figured out how to melt copper, a shiny red metal, and shape it into tools and decorations. This was a huge deal because it was one of the very first times people used metal. It was like having a superpower to change rocks into useful things. This discovery helped people make better tools and even start making jewelry.
