Key Facts
King of a Boot-Shaped Land!
Victor Emmanuel III was the king of Italy, a country shaped like a boot kicking a ball (which is the island of Sicily!). Italy is in Europe, a big continent with lots of countries. It has sunny beaches, tall mountains called the Alps, and even volcanoes that sometimes puff out smoke!
The weather is usually warm and sunny, perfect for eating yummy pizza and gelato. Italy is a beautiful place with ancient buildings and amazing art.
When Was He King?
Victor Emmanuel III became king a long, long time ago, in 1900. That's even before your grandparents were born! He was king for over 40 years, which is a super long time. During his rule, Italy went through big changes, like fighting in two World Wars. He saw his country change from a place with horses and carriages to one with cars and airplanes. It was a very busy time to be a king!
A King Who Loved Tiny Things!
Guess what? King Victor Emmanuel III had a very special hobby. He was a huge stamp collector! He had thousands and thousands of stamps from all over the world. Some of his stamps were super rare and worth a lot of money. He even had a special room in his palace just for his stamps. It’s like having a giant sticker book, but way more valuable! He was known as the 'King of Stamps'.
What Did He Do?
As king, Victor Emmanuel III was the leader of Italy. He made important decisions and met with leaders from other countries. He was also the head of the Italian army. During his time as king, Italy became a republic, which means people vote for their leaders instead of having a king or queen. He gave up his throne in 1946, and Italy chose a new way to be led.
