Who Was This King Ur-Nammu?

Imagine a king from a super long time ago, even before dinosaurs! That was Ur-Nammu. He lived in a land called Sumer, which is now part of a country called Iraq. He was a very important leader who started a whole new royal family, like the start of a new team in a game. He was known for building big things and making important rules for everyone to follow.

Building a Kingdom and a Giant Tower!

Ur-Nammu was a great builder. He built lots of temples, which are special places for people to worship. He also dug canals, which are like watery roads to help move water for farming. His biggest project was starting to build a giant tower called a ziggurat. It was like a huge, stepped pyramid, taller than many houses stacked up! He also led his army to make his kingdom bigger and stronger.

The First Rulebook Ever!

One of the coolest things Ur-Nammu did was create the very first known set of laws in the world! It's called the Code of Ur-Nammu. Before this, people might not have known exactly what was right or wrong. This rulebook helped everyone understand the rules and made life fairer. It's like the first-ever instruction manual for how to be a good citizen!

Why We Still Remember Ur-Nammu

Even though Ur-Nammu lived thousands of years ago, we still talk about him today! This is because he was a pioneer. He started a new empire, built amazing structures, and most importantly, he created the first written laws. These laws helped shape how societies work. He was like the first coach who wrote down the rules for a brand new sport!
